Not all end-of-life equipment is waste.

simby is a Portuguese company based in Porto that runs a marketplace for business electronic equipment. We connect those who have end-of-life equipment with those who buy it, through electronic auction, in bulk lots rather than by unit.

Not all equipment that's taken out of use is waste. A lot of laptops replaced after three years is worth far more to someone who refurbishes it than to someone who shreds it. simby handles both possibilities in the same process and lets the market decide which pays more, each with its own rules.

simby doesn't buy or sell. It structures the market.

That's what sets simby apart from an auctioneer and from a waste operator: the platform isn't a party to the transaction, it sets the rules for it.

Lot description

The seller describes the lot, uploads photographs and chooses the destination: reuse or recycling.

Eligibility to bid

Only buyers admitted for that category can bid. Waste lots require a valid waste management licence or permit; reuse lots require proof of activity and regularised status.

Payment

Released by the platform once the buyer confirms collection and the lot's conformity with the published description.

Documentation

Environmental forms when the lot is waste, transport documents, invoicing and a final destination certificate.

How It Works

Two roles in the transaction, each with a simple and transparent process.

Registration and admission

We confirm the company's identity and ownership of the equipment. Admission is free.

Lot publication

Describe the lot, upload photos and set the auction's conditions and intended destination: reuse or recycling. Guaranteed support from the simby team in setting up the process to optimise your return.

Auction or sale

Set a deadline and minimum value. The lot is visible only to buyers admitted for that category. Receive bidding alerts and a summary of interactions at every stage of the process.

Collection, payment and documentation

Payment is released by the platform after the buyer confirms collection and lot conformity. simby supports the management of all documentation associated with the transaction, including environmental forms when the lot is considered waste and/or transport documents and invoicing.

Registration and verification

For waste lots, a valid waste management licence or permit is required. For reuse lots, proof of activity and regularised status.

Market access

Lots from companies across several European countries, classified by category, condition and volume, with no commercial prospecting.

Bidding

Same rules for everyone, visible deadline, no side negotiation.

Receipt

After collection you have a period to verify the lot's conformity with the published description. Payment is only released at the end of that period.

Services

Optional services, contractable by either party, separate from the auction.

Certified Data Erasure

Secure erasure of personal data and sensitive information, with a report by serial number.

Laboratory Analysis & Composition

Determination of the lot's composition, on request by the seller or the buyer, before or during the auction.

Logistics & Transport

Support in managing transport, in compliance with applicable legislation.

Final Destination Documentation

Recycling certificates and proof of destination, with traceability.

Annual Destination Report

Volume transacted, percentage directed to reuse and percentage directed to recycling, in a format usable for sustainability reporting.

Who can sell, who can buy, and what equipment is accepted.

What is simby?

A platform for auctions and direct sale of business electrical and electronic equipment. It connects sellers, companies generating end-of-life equipment, with certified buyers, simplifying compliance with WEEE management obligations.

Who can sell and who can buy?

Sellers can be companies that place electrical and electronic equipment on the market and have a legal obligation to manage their waste. Buyers must be operators duly licensed for the receipt, sorting and recovery of WEEE. Access to the platform is subject to approval by the simby team, after verification of each party's legal documentation.

What equipment categories are accepted?

Business electrical and electronic equipment classified under the European List of Waste, industrial or household in origin, hazardous or non-hazardous. The correct category for each lot is confirmed when it's published.

Where does simby operate?

Currently in Portugal, with planned expansion to Spain and the rest of the European Union. The platform complies with national law and with Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 on shipments of waste.

Auction or direct sale: what's the difference?

In an auction, admitted buyers bid until the deadline set by the seller and the highest offer wins. In a direct sale, the seller sets a fixed price and the first buyer to accept it wins immediately, with no bidding.

Who pays for transport?

It depends on the Incoterms agreed for the auction. Under EXW, the most common term, the winning buyer covers transport and collection costs. Other terms (DAP, FCA) shift some of that responsibility to the seller.
